Privilege and Oppression

Searching, I found it very interesting about how we, citizens of the United States take for granted of the privileges we have. For an example, we don’t know how hard it is in other countries to earn the amount of money we have. Some live very poorly, and in harsh conditions, worse than those who have it the worse in the United States. The two groups who are affected by this are the legal immigrants trying to better them self finding a better “world” and the other group are those who are privileged, and doesn’t see how hard group one had it. Only worrying about them self because of the “jobs” taken by group one.

  1. I didn't even think of that example of privilege. Good example you picked out.

  2. You make a good point at the end. Instead of worrying about jobs that are supposedly being "taken" by the same hard working people, they should be finding jobs too instead of blaming others that are just trying to succeed in life too.

  3. I find this interesting because in class we discussed that privilege was defined as something that is right under our noses, yet we somehow remain oblivious to the fact that we have it. I believe this is a major example of where that applies in the real world. I say that because as Americans we may think that finding an outlet to charge our phone at is a struggle, but in other countries finding clean drinking water is a struggle. This just does a great example of showing how stealthy privilege can be.

  4. You raise a good point about jobs/being able to make a living. What kinds of policies shape this issue?
